The manufacturing sector in the US has experienced significant growth, according to the latest survey from the Institute for Supply Management (ISM). The July ISM manufacturing index reached a high of 55.6, its highest reading since May 2022 and exceeding Wall Street expectations of 54.0.

This marks an expansion in factory activity, with readings above 50 indicating growth. Key indicators such as new export orders, backlogs, and production have all improved, with production rising by 6.3 points.

The employment gauge has also reached its highest level since August 2022 and expanded for the first time in 33 months, according to ISM officials.

However, despite this growth, the prices index only edged down to 71.1, with nearly three-quarters of respondents reporting higher prices. This persistent inflation pressure is adding to the challenge facing the Federal Reserve.
