Ismail Sabri's Corruption Charge Put on Hold Amid Hospitalization

Kuala Lumpur, Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is facing corruption charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. However, his court appearance was put on hold as he remains hospitalized at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

According to lawyer Ragunath Kesavan, who represents Ismail Sabri, the former Prime Minister had been admitted to IJN for further medical treatment and was expected to be charged on Friday morning. The prosecution team from the Attorney General's Chambers is set to appear at court first before heading to IJN.

In October 2025, the Sessions Court ordered the forfeiture of RM169 million allegedly belonging to Ismail Sabri to the Malaysian government. This comprised various foreign currencies, including SG$6,132,350, US$1,461,400, and CHF3 million (Swiss francs), among others.

On September 8, 2025, the court was informed that neither Ismail Sabri nor his former political secretary, Datuk Mohammad Anuar Mohd Yunus, intended to challenge the prosecution's application to forfeit the seized cash and valuables. The MACC had displayed approximately RM170 million in cash and 16 kilogrammes of gold bars worth nearly RM7 million during a press conference in March 2025.
