Jackson Hole Meeting Sparks Inflation Concerns, Rate Hike Probability Soars
U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Wash's speech at this year's Jackson Hole meeting has sparked concerns in the market over rising inflation and a potential rate hike. Wash reiterated his commitment to price stability, stating that 'inflation is exceeding our 2% target' and that there is work to be done if the price target is not met.
According to Wash, the 12-month fluctuation rate of the Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE) price index is 3.7%, while the 6-month fluctuation rate is 4.1%. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures are also high, with inflation exceeding the Fed's target.
Wash also noted that the labor market is in line with full employment and that the unemployment rate of 4.1% is historically low. However, some analysts believe that prices have passed their peak and that there are still great concerns about sticky inflation.
