Japan and US Agree to Continue Coordinating on Yen Moves
Japan and the United States have agreed to continue coordinating on yen moves, which are crucial for global market stability. Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said this after a meeting with her US counterpart Scott Bessent.
The two countries' coordination is continuous and ongoing, according to Katayama, who added that they would act if markets made disorderly moves.
The yen's renewed slide to around 160 per dollar has drawn attention to the likelihood of another joint action to prop up the sagging currency.
Katayama declined to comment on whether the yen's recent slide near 160 per dollar was orderly, saying it was hard to judge what factors were driving exchange-rate moves.
