A key test of investor appetite is underway as Japan's government bonds are auctioned on Tuesday. The 10-year Japanese Government Bond (JGB) yield has reached a three-decade high, and its path toward higher interest rates is closely watched.

The JGB yield is marching closer to the psychological threshold of 3%, with investors gauging whether yields have further room to rise. The auction's outcome could affect Japan's funding costs and global bond markets.

Budget requests from ministries and agencies for fiscal 2027 are expected to reach a record high of 140 trillion yen ($876.2 billion), surpassing last year's all-time high of 122.3 trillion yen.
