Japan Department Stores Update Traditional New Year's Dishes for Younger Consumers
Japanese department stores are revamping their traditional New Year's dishes to appeal to younger consumers. As part of this effort, Sogo & Seibu Co., a major retailer in Japan, has released an osechi product themed on the Super Sentai series, a popular Japanese superhero television franchise for children.
The set includes 'nerikiri' traditional Japanese confectionery inspired by heroes from five different works, dating back to the 1970s. The price of this product is 26,460 yen, making it a premium offering.
Additionally, Sogo & Seibu has kept the price of its popular four-tier osechi box unchanged from last year at 23,220 yen, as consumers have become more budget-conscious amid rising inflation.
