Japan Exports Surge 23% on AI Demand and Weaker Yen

Japan's exports have seen a significant surge in July, driven by the global AI boom and a weaker yen. The value of exports from Japan increased by 23.2 percent year-on-year, surpassing analysts' expectations. This is the strongest rise since 2022, exceeding June's 19.3 percent increase. Demand for semiconductor equipment and computer chips has been robust due to the AI hype.

The weaker yen has also played a crucial role in making Japanese products more competitive in foreign markets. In July, the currency fell to its lowest level against the dollar in 40 years. However, imports have also risen sharply, with an increase of 27.8 percent reported by the Finance Ministry in Tokyo.

The trade balance deficit has widened from 409.9 billion yen to 634.5 billion yen (approximately 3.4 billion euros or 4.4 billion USD) due to this surge in imports. Despite this, Japan's exports have maintained their momentum, defying predictions and expectations.
