Japan Inflation Hits 1.9% Amid Energy Price Surge
Japan's headline inflation rate surged to its highest level this year in July, reaching 1.9% due to rising energy costs.
The increase in energy prices was despite government subsidies aimed at shielding consumers from higher costs.
Energy prices rose for the first time since November 2025, driven by high oil costs stemming from the conflict in the Middle East.
Fresh food prices also saw a sharp spike, increasing 7% compared to a 3.9% rise in June.
