Japan Logs Record Forex Intervention Spend Amid Yen Weakness
The Japanese Ministry of Finance announced that the country spent a record-breaking 15.3993 trillion yen on foreign exchange market interventions from July 30 to August 28. This figure marks the largest monthly amount ever allocated for yen-buying, dollar-selling interventions.
The government and the Bank of Japan conducted these interventions to curb the historic weakening of the yen. The cumulative amount of foreign exchange intervention operations this year has exceeded 27 trillion yen, surpassing the previous annual record of about 15 trillion yen set in 2024.
