Japan Pumps More Cash into Rapidus Chip Plans
The Japanese government is seeking an additional 150 billion yen to support Rapidus Corporation's plans for chip production. The request will be part of the country's fiscal 2027 budget, which is set to be finalized soon.
Rapidus has ambitious targets, with the company planning to begin mass-producing semiconductors with circuit widths of 2 nanometres by the end of fiscal 2027. This will be a major milestone for the industry, and Japan's government is eager to support it.
The proposed funds would be invested through the Innovation Platform Agency, Japan, which has already committed 250 billion yen to Rapidus. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry believes that the new injection would strengthen the company's financial position and attract additional private investment.
