Japan Sets Record $82 Billion Defense Budget Request for FY 2027
The Japan Defense Ministry has announced its budget request for fiscal year 2027, which is expected to be a record-breaking 8,890.8 billion yen.
This figure is based on the existing Defense Buildup Program, which sets a total defense spending of around 43 trillion yen for the five years through fiscal 2027.
The budget request includes funding for various measures, such as the use of artificial intelligence and drones in response to new warfare, as well as organizational revamp plans, including the establishment of a new agency to aid retired Self-Defense Forces members and their families.
