Japan Stocks Rally on Rate Hopes and AI Gains

Japan's stock markets continued their upward trend on Friday, driven by expectations of lower interest rates and strong gains in technology stocks.

The Nikkei 225 index rose 0.59% to 68,714, while the Topix increased by 0.51% to 4,197. The rally was fueled by softer US inflation data, which reduced the likelihood of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September.

Markets now see a 35% chance of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike in September, down from 55% a week earlier. This decrease in expectations has boosted investor confidence and contributed to the stock market's gains.

Tech stocks led the charge, with companies like Kioxia Holdings, Advantest, and SoftBank Group experiencing significant increases of 3.8%, 2.6%, and 2.9% respectively. The renewed interest in artificial intelligence has driven these gains, as investors bet on the sector's growth potential.
