Japan Surplus Swings to Black as Exports Boost Trade Balance
Japan posted a current account surplus of 17.43 trillion yen in the first half of 2026, marking a significant swing from last year's deficit. The trade balance turned positive, with a surplus of 742.1 billion yen in the goods trade balance.
The government data showed that exports grew 12.8 percent to 59.19 trillion yen and imports increased 8.4 percent to 58.45 trillion yen in the January-June period.
However, in June alone, Japan logged a current account deficit of 92.3 billion yen.
