Japan Throws Weight Behind Fusion and Recycling Startups
Japan's Green Transformation (GX) Acceleration Agency has invested in two startups focused on nuclear fusion and plastics recycling. The agency's investment is part of a broader plan to mobilize $2.3 trillion in public and private investment across 17 strategic sectors by fiscal 2040.
The GX Acceleration Agency invested in Kyoto Fusioneering, which develops auxiliary equipment for nuclear fusion reactors, and JEPLAN, which recycles plastics. The investment is part of a $125 million combined public-private funding package for the two companies.
Nikkei reports that this investment is one of several initiatives aimed at supporting startups in Japan's strategic sectors. The 370 trillion yen plan aims to drive innovation and growth in key areas, including energy, transportation, and healthcare.
