Japan Unleashes Record-Breaking Yen Intervention as Currency Hits Fresh Low
Japan's Ministry of Finance released its daily currency intervention records for the April-June quarter, revealing that the government and the Bank of Japan conducted yen-buying, dollar-selling interventions totaling ¥11.73 trillion (approximately $74.1 billion) across three occasions: April 30, May 4, and May 6.
The largest single-day intervention was on April 30, which amounted to ¥6.28 trillion (approximately $39.6 billion), marking the biggest yen-buying operation since records began in 1991.
The interventions were timed during Japan's Golden Week holidays when market liquidity was thin, and triggered a sharp rebound in the yen from the upper 160 range to the 155 level against the dollar.
