Japanese Banking Giants Enjoy Record Profits Amid Rate Hikes
Five major Japanese banking groups saw their combined net profits surge by 42.3% in April-June, reaching 1.956 trillion yen according to latest earnings reports.
The increase is attributed to improved lending margins following the Bank of Japan's recent rate hikes and increased commission income from investment trusts sales amid rising stock prices.
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc.'s consolidated net profit jumped 48.2% to 809.4 billion yen, while Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. saw its net profit rise by 33% to 501.3 billion yen.
