Japanese Bond Yields Hit Record High Amid Inflation Concerns
Japanese government bond yields rose on Friday as weak demand at a two-year bond auction and persistent inflation concerns weighed on investor appetite.
The five-year JGB yield hit a record high of 2.195%, its highest level ever, after the two-year auction showed a notable decline in demand compared to the previous month's sale.
Bond yields move inversely to prices, and the weaker auction raised concerns about investor appetite for Japanese government debt at current yield levels.
The inflation concerns were strengthened by fresh data from Tokyo showing that consumer prices edged higher in August, supporting expectations that the Bank of Japan could consider raising interest rates as soon as its next policy meeting.
