Japanese Yen Continues Downward Trend Amid Rate Differential and Fiscal Worries
The Japanese Yen (JPY) has continued to weaken against the US Dollar (USD), reaching a one-and-a-half-week high on Wednesday. The pair's rebound from the 155.25-155.20 area was supported by Japan's wide rate differential, fiscal worries, and ongoing energy-related risks.
Despite stronger Japanese sentiment data and rising expectations for another Bank of Japan (BoJ) rate hike, USD/JPY remained underpinned ahead of key US Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) releases.
The significant interest rate gap between Japan and other major economies continues to weigh on the JPY, keeping carry trades in place and supporting USD/JPY. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's push for aggressive economic stimulus measures has heightened concerns regarding Japan's deteriorating fiscal outlook.
