The Japanese yen has seen a significant increase in value against the US dollar in recent trading sessions. The currency rose by over 3 yen compared to the previous day, with market participants expecting the Bank of Japan (BOJ) to raise interest rates in mid-September.

This strengthening of the yen comes as speculation grows that the interest rate gap between Japan and the United States will narrow soon. According to Kyodo News, the expectation has encouraged market participants to buy the yen, leading to its sharp rise in value.

The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently called for a review of loose monetary policy, which has further strengthened expectations for a BOJ rate hike. BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda has also expressed readiness to raise interest rates, taking into account economic conditions and price movements.
