Japan's core consumer inflation rose to 1.6% in June as higher global oil prices and a weaker yen increased pressure on import costs, official data showed.

The core consumer price index, which excludes volatile fresh food prices, climbed from a four-year low of 1.4% in May and marked the first increase in the annual core inflation rate since March.

Headline consumer inflation also rose to 1.7% from 1.5% in the previous month.

The 'core-core' inflation rate, which excludes both fresh food and energy prices, eased to 1.7% from 1.8%, its lowest level since August 2022.
