Japan's Economy Minister Downplays Inflation Risks Despite BOJ Warning
Japan's Economy Minister Minoru Kiuchi offered a relatively optimistic view on inflation risks in the country, contradicting the Bank of Japan's recent warning.
In a news conference, Kiuchi stated that consumer prices have only seen moderate rises so far, with a 1.7% year-over-year increase in June.
He acknowledged that there is a possibility that costs could be passed on to food and other consumer goods from summer through autumn, but emphasized the need for vigilance rather than alarm.
Kiuchi expressed confidence in Japan's ability to manage inflationary pressures, citing average real wages expected to increase nearly 1% during the current fiscal year ending in March 2027.
