Japan's Economy Posts 1.1% Growth Amid Headwinds
Japan's economy grew at an annual rate of 1.1% in the April-June quarter, despite facing headwinds from a weak yen and rising energy costs.
The country's real GDP, or gross domestic product, increased by a seasonally adjusted 0.3% from the first quarter to the second quarter of this year, according to government data released Monday.
Private consumption dipped 1.2% in April-June compared to January-March, while exports grew 0.5%, driven by global demand for Japanese autos and semiconductors.
The strong performance of these sectors helped offset the decline in private spending, but the overall growth rate was lower than what analysts had expected.
