Japan's Finance Minister and BOJ Chief Head to G20 Amid Yen Weakness
Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama and Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda will attend the G20 gathering in Asheville, North Carolina next week. The meeting is expected to focus on policies to reverse the weak yen and global economic fallout from the Middle East war.
Katayama expressed hope that she could contribute to discussions about the global economy at the meeting. She also stated that Japan's joint currency intervention with the US was a 'very strong' statement, which still has an impact on markets.
Financial markets are looking for potential meetings between Katayama and Ueda with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the sidelines of the G20 gathering. The yen has slipped back towards 160 per dollar after briefly rising to 155.20 following the joint currency intervention last month.
