Japan's FY 2027 Budget Requests Soar to Record ¥143 Trillion
Tokyo's general-account budget requests for fiscal 2027 have reached an all-time high of 143,065.6 billion yen.
The figure represents a 16.8% increase from the previous year's initial budget of 122,445.4 billion yen and marks the fourth consecutive year that budget requests have set a new record.
The Finance Ministry cited two main reasons for the significant jump: the inclusion in the initial budget of recurring measures previously funded through supplementary budgets, and the creation of a new investment quota with no ceiling on funding amounts.
The general-account requests for the new investment quota, aimed at crisis management and growth investments, totaled 12,173 billion yen.
