Japan's Inflation Hits 2.0% in July, Pressuring BOJ Policy Path
Japan's core inflation rate has accelerated to 2.0% in July, according to data released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. This marks the fastest pace of inflation in several months.
The core consumer price index (CPI) rose year-on-year from 1.7% in June, exceeding market expectations. Energy prices contributed significantly to the increase, as government subsidies for electricity and gas were phased out.
However, core-core inflation, which strips out both food and energy, remained above the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) 2% target, indicating underlying demand-driven price growth is taking hold.
