Japan's consumer price index (CPI) inflation rose as expected in June, while core inflation also increased but remained below the Bank of Japan's annual target.

The core CPI inflation rate, which excludes volatile fresh food prices, climbed to 1.6% year-on-year, meeting expectations and staying below the BOJ's 2% target.

Headline CPI rose to 1.7% y-o-y from 1.5% in the prior month, with inflation picking up but remaining relatively subdued due to government subsidies on fuel and utility.
