Japan's Record-Breaking Budget: 130 Trillion Yen for 2027 Growth Push
The Japanese government is set to propose a record-breaking budget for fiscal year 2027, exceeding 130 trillion yen (approximately 1.135 trillion won) for the first time on record.
The decision not to cap budget requests for new growth investment items has led to an increase in requests, with major sectors such as defense and economy, trade, and industry requesting significant amounts.
The Defense Ministry is seeking a record high of about 8.9 trillion yen (approximately 77.71 trillion won) to deploy interceptor drones and other items, while the Economy, Trade, and Industry Ministry requested around 7.7 trillion yen (approximately 67.24 trillion won).
Artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and robotics are also set to receive significant funding, with about 1.4 trillion yen (approximately 12.22 trillion won) allocated for these projects.
