Japan's Record-Breaking Yen Intervention Tops ¥6 Trillion Mark
Japan's finance authorities made history on April 30 by intervening in the foreign exchange market to the tune of a record-breaking ¥6.28 trillion. This move surpassed the previous record of ¥5.92 trillion set just one day prior, on April 29, 2024.
The intervention took place during Japan's Golden Week holiday period and was part of a larger effort by authorities to stabilize the yen. In addition to the April 30 operation, they also purchased ¥780.2 billion on May 4 and ¥4.68 trillion on May 6, bringing the total to ¥11.73 trillion.
This marked Japan's first direct intervention in the foreign exchange market since July 2024.
