Japan's Wages Post Strongest Gain Since 1997, BOJ Rate Hike Path Confirmed
Japan's labor market continues to show signs of strength as nominal wages grew at their fastest pace in nearly three decades. According to data from the Japanese labor ministry, workers' pay climbed 4.7% in July compared to a year earlier.
This significant increase far exceeded economists' forecasts of 3.8%, marking the sixth straight month where wage growth surpassed 3%. The last time wages grew at this rate was in 1997.
The strong corporate earnings and tight labor market are likely contributing factors to this surge in nominal pay, keeping the Bank of Japan on course for further monetary tightening.
