Japan's Wholesale Prices Hold Above 7% for Third Straight Month
Japan's wholesale prices continued their upward trend in August, exceeding the 7% mark for the third consecutive month. The Producer Price Index (PPI) rose by 7.6% from a year earlier, according to preliminary figures released by the Bank of Japan.
The pace of increase slowed slightly by 0.1 percentage point from July, but the PPI remains above 7% for the third month in a row. The index measures prices of goods traded among businesses, providing insight into inflationary pressures.
Rising oil product prices were a significant contributor to the high inflation rate, with petroleum and coal products jumping by 14.7%. Chemical goods, including synthetic rubber, also saw notable increases due to higher naphtha costs, while plastic products climbed by 11.2%.
