Japan's Yen Faces Bleak Outlook as BOJ Fails to Act

The Japanese yen's outlook remains bleak as it continues to suffer from the Bank of Japan's reluctance to accelerate its monetary tightening cycle.

While the Federal Reserve's decisions may not directly impact the USD/JPY pair, an unexpected increase in federal funds rates could widen the yield gap between US and Japanese bonds, benefiting the dollar-yen pair.

Japan's inflation accelerated in June, which could push import costs and consumer prices even higher. However, the Bank of Japan is unlikely to take decisive action as speeding up its tightening cycle would increase the government's debt-servicing burden.
