Japan's Yen Weakness Creates Opportunity for Overseas Investors
Sydney-based bloodstock agent Satomi Oka has returned from her July trip to Japan, where she participated in several key sales and observed a strengthening market for thoroughbred horses.
The Japanese yen's depreciation by approximately 11% over the past year presents an attractive buying opportunity for overseas investors. Australian buyers have already taken advantage of this trend, with mares like Mosheen producing high-priced colts in recent years.
In particular, the JRHA Select Sale saw a significant increase in prices, with 85 yearlings selling for over JPY100 million (approximately AU$888,000). This growth is largely driven by the yen's continued decline against major currencies like the Australian dollar.
