Kashkari Emphasizes Value of Clear Fed Communication Amid Inflation Concerns

Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari emphasized the importance of clearly communicating the Federal Reserve's 'reaction function' to various economic scenarios. He believes that this transparency is beneficial for both market participants and the public, allowing them to understand how officials will likely respond to inflation, employment, and other economic developments.

Kashkari made his comments in a CNBC interview, where he also reiterated his call for the Fed to initiate small interest rate hikes to combat inflation. He noted that most of the current inflation is driven by supply shocks, such as the war in Iran, rather than excess demand.

The Fed's new chair, Kevin Warsh, has adopted a different approach, discontinuing forward guidance and removing it from policy statements. Warsh has set up five task forces to explore ways to overhaul the central bank's communications strategies.
