Katayama Heads to G20 as Yen Slides Toward 160

Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama will attend next week's meeting of the G20 finance leaders in Asheville, North Carolina. She said she wants to contribute to discussions on global economy and international finance.

Katayama will be joined by Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda at the gathering. Ueda's attendance has not been officially confirmed, but US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is looking forward to meeting him.

Markets are focusing on a potential meeting between Katayama and Bessent, following their coordinated currency intervention last month to prop up the sagging yen. The yen has slid back towards 160 after reaching a 40-year low of 164 per dollar in August.
