Katayama Mum on Possible Yen Intervention Amid Dollar Slide
Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama declined to comment on possible foreign exchange intervention on Friday.
Katayama told reporters that she had 'no comment' regarding the matter, following a nearly 5 yen drop in the dollar's value against the yen to below 158 yen in overseas trading on Thursday.
The finance minister added that there is always a sense of tension surrounding exchange rates. Vice Finance Minister Atsushi Mimura also said 'no comment', stating that intervention would depend on acting appropriately.
