Katayama to Attend G20 Meeting, Yen Strength Still a Key Focus

Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama has confirmed her attendance at next week's G20 finance leaders meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. She plans to contribute to discussions on global economy and international finance.

Katayama was speaking after a regular cabinet meeting on Friday. Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda is also expected to attend the gathering, although the BOJ has not disclosed whether he will meet with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Markets are focusing on potential meetings between Katayama and Bessent, following their coordinated currency intervention last month to support the yen. Despite the yen's recent decline, it remains a key concern for policymakers.
