Kentucky Labor Market Shows Signs of Improvement, But Regional Challenges Persist
Kentucky's labor market showed signs of improvement in July as unemployment rates fell across most counties, according to data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 4.7%, while nonfarm payroll employment remained essentially unchanged from June to July, a trend seen in 48 states.
Cumberland and Woodford counties posted the lowest unemployment rates in the state at 4.1% each, followed by Campbell County at 4.2%. Fayette County and several other counties had rates of 4.3%, while Martin County recorded Kentucky's highest rate at 10.1%.
The mixed picture reflects ongoing regional economic challenges, particularly in eastern Kentucky, where many counties struggled with high unemployment rates. The labor force figures include unemployed Kentuckians actively seeking work but exclude those who have not looked for employment during the previous four weeks.
