King Charles III Appears on New Canadian $20 Note
The Bank of Canada has unveiled its new $20 note featuring King Charles III, making him the fourth monarch to appear on a Canadian banknote. The design process cost $6 million and each note will have an additional $0.05 printed due to security features, bringing the total cost to $0.35 per bill.
The new note includes a first-of-its-kind security strip that shifts as the note moves, with elements appearing 3D. Dark bands on the petals of a poppy appear to spin and a maple leaf changes from light to dark.
Bank of Canada officials plan to do outreach in the coming months to ensure retailers and law enforcement are aware of the changes. The new bill also features an image of Canada's National Vimy Memorial in France, with design elements chosen in consultation with Indigenous Peoples.
