King Charles III Debuts on New $20 Bill in Vertically Oriented Design

Canada has unveiled its new $20 bill, featuring King Charles III in a vertically oriented design. This marks the first time a new monarch has appeared on Canadian currency in over seven decades, with the image of Charles replacing that of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The new note is set to enter circulation early next year, making Canada the first Commonwealth nation outside Britain to feature Charles on its banknotes. The vertical design is only the second for Canada, following the Viola Desmond $10 bill, which won global design honors in 2018.

The reverse of the new bill features France's Vimy Ridge memorial and a floral tapestry that reflects King Charles' environmental focus. This nod to history and nature underscores the Bank of Canada's efforts to create meaningful designs for its currency.
