King Charles III Portrait Hits Canadian $20 Bill
The Bank of Canada has unveiled the final design for a new $20 bill featuring a portrait of King Charles III. This is the fourth monarch to appear on a Canadian banknote, replacing Queen Elizabeth II's image. The central bank was directed by Justin Trudeau's government in 2023 to feature the King in its next redesign process.
The design process cost $6 million, and each note will have an additional security strip that shifts as the note moves, along with other features such as a spinning poppy and a changing maple leaf. The Bank of Canada says these new security features are part of their 'relentless fight against counterfeiting'.
The new $20 bill is set to go into circulation early next year and will cost an additional $0.05 to print, bringing the total cost up to $0.35 per bill.
