King Charles III Takes Centre Stage on New Canadian $20 Bill
The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new Canadian $20 bill featuring King Charles III, which will begin circulating in February 2027. This is the first time in over 70 years that a new monarch has appeared on the $20 denomination.
The vertical note features a portrait of His Majesty surrounded by a flower and leaf tapestry inspired by his love of the environment. The front of the bill also includes provincial and territorial floral emblems representing the 13 provinces and territories, while the back retains the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France as a tribute to Canada's contributions and sacrifices in military conflicts.
The new $20 note has advanced security features that are hard to counterfeit, including a purple security stripe with elements that spin, transform, and pulse when moved. The Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem said the note is 'striking, symbolic, and secure.'
