King Charles III Unveiled on Canada's New $20 Banknote
Canada has rolled out a new $20 banknote featuring a portrait of King Charles III, marking the first time a new monarch has appeared on Canadian currency in over 70 years.
The unveiling took place at a Bank of Canada event, where central bank governor Tiff Macklem described it as a 'very special day.'
The new $20 note is unique not only because of its subject but also due to its vertical orientation. The reverse side features an image of the Vimy Ridge memorial in France, honoring Canada's role in World War I.
Canada joins New Zealand and Australia as Commonwealth nations that have displayed King Charles on their coins. However, unlike these countries, Canada has chosen to include him on banknotes, making it the first country outside the UK to do so since his ascension to the throne.
