Kiwi Dollar Soars on Robust Business Sentiment
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) continued its upward trend for a third consecutive session on Thursday, trading around 0.5810 during Asian hours. This surge in value is largely attributed to the strong business confidence shown by New Zealand's domestic market.
New Zealand's ANZ Business Outlook Index rose sharply to 56.1 in July from 36.6 in the previous month, marking its highest reading since February. The main contributor to this improvement was the easing of international oil prices following a decrease in geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
The anticipation of a more restrictive policy stance from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) is also adding to the NZD's positive momentum. Market participants widely expect a 25-basis-point rate increase at the September policy meeting, with futures pricing reflecting expectations for policy rates to reach at least 3.0% by year-end and a projected peak around 3.5% by mid-2027.
