Kiwi Falls Amid Dollar Strength and Geopolitical Tensions
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) has fallen against the US Dollar (USD), dropping to its lowest level in a week as investors favor the greenback ahead of the release of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) Minutes.
The NZD/USD pair retreated from the 0.5925 area, hitting the mid-0.5800s and marking a fresh weekly low due to rising US Treasury yields driven by inflation risks linked to higher oil prices and Middle East tensions.
Despite concerns over potential disruptions to global supply chains pushing crude oil prices to nearly a three-week high, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's hawkish tone has offered some support for the NZD. Brown Brothers Harriman's Elias Haddad argues that 'above target inflation, more favorable domestic growth outlook, and a policy rate near the lower-end of the RBNZ's neutral range (2.20%-4.10%) argue for additional RBNZ rate hikes.'
