Kiwi Finds Temporary Reprieve from Dovish Shift and Rate Hike Expectations
The New Zealand dollar has regained some stability after falling to its lowest level since late July. The currency, also known as the kiwi, stabilized around $0.58, after a 0.7% drop overnight.
This decline comes amid increased expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike next week, which has strengthened the US dollar. Meanwhile, recent comments from policymakers at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) suggest a dovish shift in their policy outlook, with the central bank adopting a gradual approach to further tightening.
Markets now largely expect the RBNZ to leave interest rates unchanged in October, although a December hike remains almost fully priced in. The kiwi's downturn has been driven by various factors, including cost-of-living pressures and the ongoing Middle East conflict, which have impacted New Zealand's manufacturing sector.
