Kochie Warns Against Another Rate Hike as Mortgage Holders Struggle
Financial commentator David Koch has warned the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) against lifting interest rates again, citing the impact on mortgage holders and households struggling with rising living costs.
The RBA's August rate decision is looming, with markets pricing in a 40% chance of another increase. If rates rise by 0.25 percentage points, it could add $120 to monthly repayments on an average-sized $735,000 mortgage.
Koch argues that inflation is driven by factors outside consumers' control, such as rising petrol prices and grocery costs, rather than overspending. He urges borrowers to review their home loan, negotiate with their bank, and shop around for cheaper household bills to mitigate the impact of potential rate hikes.
