Korea Composite Stock Price Index Plummets Amid US Inflation Worries
Seoul's stock market opened sharply lower on Friday, following losses on Wall Street. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell by 3.29% to 6,802.50 points at the opening bell.
The decline was triggered by rising oil prices and escalating tensions in the Middle East, which led to a sell-off in US stocks overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.65%.
Investors are now waiting for Friday's consumer price report to gain insights into the Federal Reserve's future interest rate decisions. A previous report showed that the U.S. producer price index rose by 0.4% in August from a month earlier, accelerating from the previous month's 0.1% gain.
