Korea's foreign exchange authorities sold a net $28 billion worth of U.S. dollars last year to prevent the local currency from depreciating further, according to the U.S. Treasury Department's currency report.

The report said China recorded the largest net dollar sales in 2025 at $105 billion, followed by India at $43 billion and Korea at $28 billion.

Most of South Korea's intervention occurred in the fourth quarter when the won weakened into the mid- to upper-1,400-won range against the U.S. dollar due to overseas equity investments.
