Kospi Index Climbs on Friday Amidst Global Market Recovery
The South Korean Kospi Index rose by over 1% on Friday as investors gained confidence ahead of the US nonfarm payroll data. This move was led by top companies such as Samsung Electronics, which jumped by 1.80%, and SK Hynix, which soared by over 2.76%. SK Square, a company with a large stake in SK Hynix, also saw its shares increase by over 3.26%.
The rebound was not limited to South Korea, as global indices also showed signs of recovery. AI stocks surged after OpenAI launched Astra, its most advanced model, and following strong earnings reports from companies like Dell and HP Enterprise.
However, the Kospi Index remains under pressure due to ongoing deleveraging in South Korea. Hyundai Motor Company, LG Energy Solutions, Samsung Biologics, and KB Financial Group were among the top constituents that saw their shares decline.
