Kospi Outlook Hinges on US Inflation Data and Foreign Investor Flows
The Kospi's performance next week will be influenced by US inflation data and foreign investor flows, according to industry analysts. The index closed at 6,258.77 on Friday, down 37.61 points or 0.60 percent from the previous session.
US consumer price index (CPI) and producer price index (PPI) readings are expected to have a significant impact on market interest rates, exchange rates, and foreign investor positioning. A sharp acceleration in goods inflation is unlikely given the slowdown in rental price increases and stabilization of distributor margins within producer prices, said NH Investment & Securities.
Lee Jae-won, a researcher at Yuanta Securities Korea, noted that next week's US inflation data and easing of geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran will determine the direction not only of long-term interest rates but also semiconductor stocks and foreign investor flows.
